    Filabot Wee

Here is a video of the Filabot Wee extruding filament. It’s been a long time in the making and here it is… and it works! This is the next big thing for 3D printing. Filabot pre-launched in August and the Filabot Wees have been selling like hotcakes! If you haven’t looked into this machine already, I would highly recommend it. They hope to launch there two bigger models by the end of the year. Keep an eye on these guys.

NASA funds a 3D pizza printer!

When searching 3D printing, I came across this and found it pretty fascinating. For people who are unfamiliar with 3D printing and the direction in which it is heading, they do not understand the capabilities. 3D printing technology has been around since the 1980’s, but much like computers at that time, they were the size of a room. Over the last 30 years this incredible technology had evolved into a desktop hobby, but has also become quite practical, while still remaining fun. They have metal 3D printers that print objects made of steel, brass, titanium, aluminum, etc. This TIMES article talks about the chocolate 3D printer…….yes, I said CHOCOLATE. Sweet, delicious edible chocolate, that you design! Now, NASA has funded a 3D pizza printer. According to this CNET article, the printer bed is heated and cooks the pizza while the modified nozzles extrude it. And can you believe it? It ONLY takes 12 minutes? I can’t pre heat my oven in 12 minutes, let alone cook an entire pizza.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR THIS AMAZING TECHNOLOGY?!

    BIG NEWS!

This week, SeeMeCNC has teamed up with Filabot with their 3D printer, the ORION Delta. Filabot is now selling them on their website for a pretty penny. Could there be a better collaboration? Filabot, the recycling, filament producing machine, matched up with a 3D printer….FINALLY! I highly recommend taking a peek. This printer is fascinating to watch and the end result is worth the money.

    Printing weekend

This weekend I went on a bit of a printing frenzy. I used  thingiverse.com for all of the following prints. Thingiverse, as you may know, is a website  where people can upload their CAD files – it’s almost like Amazon for 3D printers. You type in the object you’d like to print, and there will most likely be many files to choose from. Best of all, it’s FREE and instant! People upload and share their files, and the people who download them leave comments saying how the file worked for them.

These items were printed on a Printrbot with 3mm filament from Filabot.com. Once you set the right temperature, the filament is perfect, and as you can see, the color is just beautiful. They have various colors in both 3mm and 1.75mm filaments.    IMG_0170Interlocking keychains

    Hello and welcome!

This blog is going to be about what’s new and hot in the 3D printing world. I’ll also be sharing some of what I do with a 3D printer and the filament I’m working with. Any feedback or suggestions are welcome and encouraged. Enjoy!
